What on earth am I supposed to be doing here?????? Ever find yourself asking that question? I find it is usually happens to me when I'm experiencing a serious personal challenge or character test in my daily life. The circumstances are varied but you can usually throw in negative family or financial issues that exacerbate the whole process. Suddenly you're wondering what on earth you are supposed to be doing here anyway. You may have tried a few different jobs or invested in a few different things and most of them have not worked out the way you expected. You are not alone my friends. Sometimes this character building is just downright painful.
Well I wish I had all the answers for you but I don't. What I have is a little check list for you to answer to just think about then when you think you have the answers, pray your socks off for revelation and direction from the Holy Spirit. He is faithful and will communicate with you as you seek Him with all your heart, mind and soul. So....here goes!
1. What situations seem to always seek you out that you don't have to go looking for?
2. Is there a problem that always finds its way to you to be solved?
3. Is there a certain person type to whom you find yourself drawn to?
4. What kinds of jobs or ministries have given you the most joy?
5. What things have people complimented you on over the years?
6. Is there a scripture passage that is especially meaningful because it summarizes who you are and what you do best?
7. What would you do with your life if money were not an issue?
8. What do you do that causes you to forget what time it is or to eat?
9. What would be missing from your epitaph if you were to die today?
Start a journal and record answers to these questions and learn more about your true self and your purpose. God is just waiting to hear from you. Ask Him to fill in some blanks for you so you can get in step with Him. After all, that is the desire of each one of us, isn't it?
Proverbs 2:1-5 "My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasure; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God".
