Hello,these are my thoughts..
Evangelising the unable, unwilling and the uninterested.
Its been an exciting period in the last month seeking Gods face and waging war against failure. This was a heavens induced warfare and I was just a body available to be used on Earth. Gods definition of failure astounded me as he defined it as being anywhere other than where you are supposed to be. I have guarded this philosophy of finding the will of God and staying there most of my life and fought many battles with people who felt I was being too spiritual or as some mildly put it lazy. It was refreshing to hear this definition from the owner.
So it was mindboggling for me to imagine how many people were really failing by Gods standards. People who are probably considered successful by human standards. It is comforting to know that the grace and favour of God is still available today to make all things right for those willing to receive it and make amends. My question to you is, are you where God has ordained for you? And are you really searching for that place? The answer I pray, will furnish you with the truth that will set you free.
Evangelism has always been my primary call and ha been for a little while. My observations has shown me that many Christians are unclear as to the fact that the great commission was not to the clergy alone and that the recipients are not just people of their tribe, class, colour and creed. The book of Matthew and Mark makes it clear that Jesus was given all the power in heaven and on earth for the specific purpose of making disciples of all men. We are supposed to preach, teach, baptise and have multitude of signs following us.(Mat 28:18-20,Mark 16:15-18).There are three major divisions of human beings we are called to evangelise: the unable, the unwilling and the uninterested.
The unable
These are a set of people who believe that they don’t have the means to make a difference and hence tend to be selfish and oftentimes self-centred. They concentrate on themselves and their immediate needs. They are all over the world but concentrated in the developing countries. Always holding out their hands to others for their spiritual and physical needs and not contributing actively to impact others. They often end up sitting under an individual who supposedly has the anointing and does all that is required. Evangelism to these set of people will have to emphasise identity and the power God has paid so dearly for them to have . They have to be told that they have direct access to God and that the assembly is meant to be for recharging and refuelling for the secular world they go to engage during the week. They have to bear fruits.
The unwilling
These are a set of people who know the truth but have become so comfortable that they are unwilling to do anything about the gospel of Jesus. They are found around the world with heavy concentrations in the developed world and many of the rich in the dev eloping world. They are usually happy they have made it and then build a wall around themselves to prevent others from penetrating. Some will go to church as a matter of social networking and to appease their guilty souls. They often have secret shame and reproaches that are not known to many others. They are often the envy of others while many of them despair of life itself. Evangelism to these people will have to be in the demonstration of Gods power. They have to see a superior power to the wealth and comfort they have amassed. Then they will listen to the talk. They have to be taught that the reason for their position is to serve the lord using their leverage to make a proper difference and they have to be reminded just like the rich young ruler that they should be willing to walk away from it if and when needed.
The uninterested
These are people that were unwilling and then graduated to becoming uninterested. They were so unwilling for so long that their souls have been seared and are now indifferent and sometimes hostile to the things of God. This is the stage that is being set in Europe and many of the other developed countries and the homes of many of the rich and successful in the developing world that will usher in the great tribulation. I’m not clear on the issue of rapture and will not ascertain a guess as to when and how but one thing is certain is tribulation is coming. These people are a challenge to evangelise and I’m quite familiar with The UK which has been the place of my residence in the last fourteen years. Many of the present attempts are concentrated into clusters: white, black and those in-between. The response of the churches can be surmised into the following: The church of England with a rapidly dwindling numbers in membership maintain some influence by having high profile Oxford trained individuals who are constantly in the face of the ministers and in and out of the corridors of power. They have a few bright stars in their arsenal who remind us of their great past. The Catholics continue to do what they do best which is to continue to operate in grandeur which appeals to the soul while diluting the message of Christ and keeping it simple for many who are really unwilling and largely uninterested. The wealth that has been accumulated by this church from the dark ages continues to buy them a presence in the future. The others which encompass the evangelicals, the charismatic’s and those with other confusing nomenclature have tried to make a difference but with very little impact. Europe is now the least evangelised continent(3%) in the world and it has the most rapidly diminishing rate of the influence of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of the churches are into sheep nabbing a term that refers to members being poached from one congregation to the other. I became a pastor last September and walked into a myriad of problems in the church of God. My members are made up of those who have been beaten up by their previous churches and those who are not sure of the relevance of the church in the 21st century. Its been an eye opener to see so many divergent opinions in such a small place.
So how do we reach the uninterested?
We must never lose sight of the gospel of Christ, apostle Paul says its the power of God unto salvation. The perfect example was Jesus who called all of his apostles from the market place but did not leave them there. He called them and made them fishers of men. What we have today in many places are apostles in the market place who don’t fish for any man. They believe they are contributing by just sending money which many of them don’t even do properly and cheerfully. We also have apostles in the market place who have lost their identity to the market place and are ashamed to call Jesus or quote the Bible for fear of being branded extremists. So they compromise ,deluding themselves that its in aid of reaching the lost. If we lose sight of the gospel we lose sight of the power to touch our world and make any meaningful contribution. No matter the social effort we are considering, we must remember that the gospel is what gives us power. If you are going to be engaged in charitable acts, remind them of why you are doing it, if not, it becomes lost in the sea of others who have caught up with the impact of charitable works but have les than honourable intentions. If you are going into the education world, remind them of whose love compels you to do what you are doing, if you are going into the world of sports and show business do it with excellence but the premise still has to be the message of our lord Jesus. Jesus did not serve in the synagogue but visited it every Sabbath (Luke 4:16) to demonstrate to us that it will still be relevant to those who are congregated there or more importantly those seeking for a refuge. He called all his disciples from the market place but converted them into apostles who diligently carried the message to the known world, he did not just leave them where they were. All without exception died violently in the pursuit of their God-given tasks. The message was preached without compromise to the church or the secular- A parallel and alternative reality we call the kingdom. Many of what we have now are on either sides of the extreme; too spiritual with little relevance to the secular or too secular without much differentiation to make it work.
I celebrate
Nameless men are women doing what they know to do as revealed to them by God. I thank God for Rory and Wendy Alec for braving it under threat of poverty to pioneer Christian television in Europe(God Channel) and for keeping it relevant. I thank God for Kunle Omilana who pioneered and championed a television station for the need of a section of the minorities. I thank God for Nicky Gumbel for an effective and successful outreach we call the Alpha course which is still working among the uninterested. I thank God for the trustees and donors of the premier Christian media trust for the pioneering work on the first Christian radio. I salute the vision of Albert Kestin for forming the crusaders now known as urban saints for a unique outreach to the kids. Glyn Barrett for the fantastic job with audacious impacting thousands of kids in this country. I humbly salute Mike Pilavachi and the church of England backed soul survivor for bringing a different but relevant slant to evangelism. I salute the general overseer of the redeemed Christian church of God for the festival of life serving a significant purpose and pastor Matthew Ashimolowo for building a platform to be heard and to impact. I want to proclaim the trustees, staff and partners of the greenbelt, an initiative that started with ordinary people in the arts, culture and theology with an all inclusive offering that is deeply rooted in Christian tradition. I salute Les Isaacs for the vision of street pastors that has taken its place on the landscape with irrefutable proofs of success. My list is by no means exhaustive but those mentioned have caught my attention with efforts geared towards fulfilling the great commission and for being pioneers in their fields of endeavour. Their platform is accessible, unique and steeped in the gospel of our lord Jesus Christ. They are unapologetically Christians while vying for the souls of men with the best they know to do. Jesus is proud of all these people because I did not know of many of their existence till he brought them to my attention. If you feel your name will sit comfortably on this list, I celebrate you.
Way Forward
Evangelising of the unable and unwilling is less arduous than evangelising the uninterested. That is why you will keep witnessing millions turning out for crusades in certain parts of the world consistently. Evangelising the uninterested is the final frontier before the return of Jesus. This will involve hearing clearly from the master as one cap cannot fit all and doing what he tells you. There will be the emergence of myriads of initiatives that will hurl souls into the kingdom of God and all without exception will deposit something of eternal value in their souls and lead people to Christ. I don’t want us to get carried away, many of these initiatives may not succeed by human standards but don’t worry, neither Jesus nor the apostles appeared to have succeeded while they were alive. Your success will be largely celebrated long after you are gone ,if the earth has that long. God bless.

The main reason for prayer is to build a vibrant relationship with God. All other things will follow from that....
