Fellowship of World Christians 'Working Together in Union with Christ'

Could someone explain the Trinity to me in child's terms? We are taught the trinity is all in one. But many references refer to Jesus speaking to the father, etc. Which leads one to believe there is tow person's. Will Jesus be sitting beside God at the throne? How do you explain this to a child in terms one can understand? Thanks for any help.

I have gathered together a few statements for you to consider. There is an inexhaustible amount of theory and doctrine written about the subject, which I cannot do justice too, in a few brief lines. But to precise;

Trinity - The doctrine states that God is the ‘Triune God’, existing as three persons, but one being. Each of the persons is understood as having the one identical essence or nature, not merely similar natures. The Father is not the same person as the Son; the Son is not the same person as the Holy Spirit; and the Holy Spirit is not the same person as Father. They are not three gods and not three beings.

They are three distinct persons; yet, they are the entire one God. Each has a will, can speak, can love, etc., and these are demonstrations of personhood. They are in absolute perfect harmony consisting of one substance. They are coeternal, coequal, and co-powerful. If any one of the three were removed, there would be no God.

An analogy would be time. Time is past, present, and future. But, there is not three times, only one.

The Trinity is a controversial doctrine; many Christians admit they don't understand it, while many more Christians don't understand it but think they do.

The Trinity as a lesson to Christians

The Trinity expresses the way Christians should relate to God:

• Worship God the Father
• Follow the example set by God the Son
• God the Holy Spirit lives in them

The Trinity as a recipe for life

The doctrine of the Trinity teaches human beings how they should shape their lives. Many Christians see the relationship between the persons of the Trinity as providing a recipe for the best sort of human relationships. These are relationships in which individuality is balanced with relationship; relationships whose basis is mutual love and perfect communication.
